New Guinea coffee is primarily produced in the eastern half of this island state (the second largest island in the world) on small farms as well as large estates.

Its unique aroma and fragrance comes in-part from the "wet" process as well as the slightly higher elevation of 4,500-6,000 feet where it is grown.   The coffee is believed to have been cultivated there  since the late 1890's, but did not enter widespread farming and production until the late 1920's when the Jamaican Blue Mountain seedlings were introduced.

This coffee has lower levels of caffeine and acidity.
